lil layout help for a weird pap
« on: December 05, 2008, 06:40:49 AM »
well here it is, im sure its correct unfortuneatly; 2 7/8 over by 1 3/4 up

I need some help because i would like to use a pin position under my ring finger but unfortuneatly i roll right over the thumb when i do so. Does anyone have any ideas bout how to get something to roll early and alot, it seems when i throw at my normal 18mph speed, all layouts that i have tried, ex 4 or 4.5 seem to not do much untill i really slow down. I was just wonderin if anyone knew of any ideas that might help me

It sounds more like he is thumb dominant rather than finger dominat.  By this I mean he rotates his thumb around his fingers rather than his fingers aroung his thumb.  I use to bowl with someone like that.  If I remember right his PAP was 2 1/2 over and 2 up and he had about the same degree of axis tilt.

the only time i hit the thumb hole is when i use a layout with the pin under the rign finger or to the negative side of the ball, and no its not a full roller thing it is just that the first flare ring clips the bottom right of the hole. And I use all three fingers lol. remember when i say bottom right i am a lefty lol

If you catch the thumb with the first flare ring, off your hand, then you are closer than 2 7/8" no matter what your vertical is. I think you need to get this checked. When you place the pin on the 'negative' side of the grip and it pulls it on the thumb tells me you are closer than that. The vertical is part of the issue with safe guarding with layouts but I think you are closer to 5" if you catch the thumb. More than likely you catch the thumb always off your hand, you just notice it more with these layouts.

JustRico -- Not necessarily.  Think of a track clipping the thumb but 5" or so away from the fingers.  What would the PAP be?  Yes, that would be strange, but so is a track with his PAP that has an 8 degree axis tilt.  I do agree he needs to recheck the PAP and be sure to confirm it by marking it with white tape.  And if possible do it with a nonflaring ball.  --  JohnP
