I was going to ask this same thing. Anyone? I kind of figure it out from the next words from a recent review, but a complete explanation (video perhaps?) would be nice. Thx.

...Mine was a 15lb 3oz with 2.75 oz top weight. I drilled mine with the Dual Angle Drilling method (D.A.D.)with the first angle at 70degrees which is the angle from the CG to the pin to my positive axis point.(5 3/4 X 5/8 up) and the 2nd angle was 35degrees which is the angle from the pin to my PAP to the Vertical Axis Line (VAL) If your pro shop isn't familiar with the D.A.D. method, tell him to keep an eye out for articles on it in the current bowling magazines, as they go further into detail....

Sure.

First thing you want to do is draw a line from the pin (low rg mark) to the Mass bias (PSA, High RG Mark). For symmetrical balls this is 6 3/4 inches away from the Pin.  Next you take a Turbo 2n1 Pro Sect (has protractor) and determine the drilling angle.  Line up the Pro Sect with 0 being on the pin, the spine covering the Pin to PSA line and mark your degree. (example 50)
Now draw the line from Pin to degree mark (I will call this line D).  The angle you just created from the pin to psa line and line D is your drilling angle.

Next you must determine the amount of flare you wish to have.  Typically high flare is 2-6 inches, medium is about 1-2 and low is 0-1. Now on  line D, you must measure the amount of inches that corresponds to the amount of flare you want (For this explanation I am going to use 4 inches).  So 4 inches down Line D, I am going to make a Mark.

The next step is finding the VAL Angle.  How you do this is similar to the Drill angle.  The flare marker we made on Line D needs is the starting point.  Using the Pro Sect again you must place 0 degree on that flare marker with the spine going towards the pin on Line D. determine your angle and mark it.  (ex. 50 degree)  Draw a line, this is your VAL

Basically what you should be seeing is like a big N on the ball. the Point where Line D meets your VAL, is your pap. On this point draw a line that is perpendicular from the VAL- this is your midline.

Now using a example pap- 5 1/4, start from the PAP, and go left 5 1/4 on the mid line.  Draw a line at that mark perpendicular from the mid line this is your Center Line.

This is a step by step Dual Angle Layout instruction.  How we identtify this layout I used above is 50 degree, 4 inches, 50 degrees.  The first degree is the Drilling angle, the second number is the Pin to PAP, and the Third is the VAL Angle.

Hopefully this doesn't confuse you further

Excellent explanation, thanks James. Now I fully understand those tables at the end of the ProSect user guide.

You can do it without the protractor, but it takes time and understanding of the angles.

If you really want to find out how to do it from the man who came up with it, (Mo Pinel), he gives a complete explanation along with pictures in the current issue of Bowlers Journal.
