Paker Bohn lll
« on: February 26, 2010, 10:20:37 AM »
Im watching xtraframe covering the US Open and Chuck Gardner said Parker has a weight hole in his ball that goes 8 inches deep. What does this do? He's left of Couch and PA so maybe it's smoothing out the back part of the lane.

I want to know how the hell he got a hole that deep in the ball.  Special made drill bits?

You had to have heard him wrong. A ball is 8 1/2" in diameter. If you drill a weight hole 8" deep, it would literally go thru the ball-and there is no drill press that can do that. Parker more than likely had a weight hole that was 8" from grip center which is approx 2+" from his PAP.

They bought the subject up when someone asked if the PBA and USBC had seperate rules changing cover during competition, top weight and so on. I heard him say that the hole almost went through the ball but he wasn't specific about where they put the hole.

Ric I was watching Xtraframe too and that is what Chuck was saying. He said the hole almost touched the shell on the other side of the ball. Sure he was most likely exaggerating but it is what he said.

Just for the record....it was Ray Edwards, head of R and D for Brunswick, who should be getting the credit...not Chuck Gardner. Ray Edwards was there during practice and laid out one for each staffer....PBIII is the only one using the ball. It raises the RG so more surface can be used.

No bad blood, just tired of the games that certain individuals play, as well as the companies they represent.
It happens all across the industry.

I understand... it happens at my job in manufacturing as well. BUt you didn't answer my question... How is making a weight hole deeper going to raise the RG? I am a higher rev player and have never heard of this. THis intrigues me.

Simple physics.  Take a lot of the super dense center core away, makes the balls inner density less, because there is less of it. So more of the weight shifts towards the coverstock.

Ric, FYI Chuck mentioned that it was Ray who laid out the balls.
