After punching out the DV8 Hell Raiser, I became a believer. Now I have a chance to punch out a Misfit for an amazing price and cannot pass it up even though the wife said I should!
Here's what I'm concerned about though. For what DV8 calls the weakest ball in their line-up, the thing looks like an animal. What would be a good way for me to get a very controlled ball motion on lighter or shorter patterns? One person suggested a Rico drilling, but I thought I'd at least pick the brains around here too!

Not sure if it will work but I am going to try it on one of my Misfits, is to do a short pin to pap, say about 2 inches, with a high VAL angle around 50 or 60 with no hole. Should get the ball started up early and help bleed off energy and be very controllable. Just my 2 cents.

The thing with the misfit from what I have seen and from the ones I have thrown is that with shine, it hooks like crazy on the backend. It hits the dry and goes left. I threw one with 4k and one with 2k and it really tamed the reaction down a lot to more control. I think the 4k was a little better than the 2k because at 2k it just wasn't enough ball at the pins.
I say throw your favorite layout on it and just tame down the cover honestly.

It depends on your release specs.
You could go to a larger than "normal" VAL angle and Drill angle
AND
take the ball to 3000 or 4000 grit.
Don't treat the ball as special. Treat it as you would any other ball.
Just don't put the pin above the level of the bridge UNLESS you have higher than average ball speed.

Here's the one I had which got length and a heavy arc not skid snap on wet/dry house conditions. 78* (pin to PSA)x5.50"x 44* no x hole. Took it to P4000 very nice hard arc reaction but had enough length. Stats. in profile.
