Pin under drill question
« on: January 08, 2012, 08:46:42 AM »
my pap is kind of abnormal its 6 1/2 over 1 1/2 up

My pro shop guy has been drilling all my stuff 5X4X2 pin up. says having all of the same layout isnt bad at all.
I beg to differ because i wanted a different motion to the pocket sometimes for when you leave flat 10's.

He said me getting a pin under drilling would be kind of difficult and the ball may not roll properly because of how i roll over my thumb..  ( is it possible with my pap?) or do i need to just drill a more aggressive layout pin up like a 3x5x2 or a 4X4x2?

By your PAP and rolling over the thumb, you are a borderline full roller....so have you tried a full roller layout?

And the layout is not the reason (a vast majority of the time) for flat 10's. It is either too much cover and the ball is burning up or losing energy or not enough cover and the ball labors, thus burning out.

Generally the only time a layout will cause a flat 10 is over flaring.

in his picture i track more like  3/4 roller.????? if i did a full roller layout would a a lot have to change with my release? will the ball even roll properly??? if i throw it the same way i do now but with a full roller layout?

dude 6 1/2 over and 1 1/2 up you catch the thumb and are a lot closer than you think. You do not need to change your release for a full roller you need to change you get to a 3/4. By using a full roller layout the flare goes away from your fingers and towards the inside of the thumb. It is not the layouts it's your release you need to work on.

layouts are used to enhance or compliment the bowling ball....without seeing you bowl, it is very difficult to say what you would need to work on. But with that high of a vertical, I would say possibly your grip is too long, causing you to grip it, which turns your hand at the release into a suitcase or full roller....or possibly the ball may be too heavy for you...but your thumb is staying in the ball too long at the release which means your thumb is turning inward at the bottom.
