Hey everyone. I have a NIB Obsession... about a 1.5" pin and higher top weight 4+ oz. I didn't have any luck trading it, so I guess I'll do the next best thing... drill it up for myself! I haven't had a true heavy oil ball in quite some time (usually I just take some surface off one of my medium balls w/ scotchbrite if I ever run into heavier oil conditions). But this time I want to set up a very early rolling strong ball specifically for heavy oil. My problem is this... I have a fairly high track (5" over 3/8" up) and moderate to high revs. In the past, I have had trouble with placing the pin under the fingers on certain aggressive core balls. I had a Visionary Warlock that would flare over the fingers...and a couple others too. Strangely enough, I currently have two balls (although they have higher RG cores - Thing Returns & Freak Out) drilled with pin below fingers and I am fine... no problems.
I'm concerned that putting the pin under the fingers of the Obsession may cause it to flare over the fingers... what do you think?
If so, what would be the earliest rolling, "flare-safe" layout I could use?
Thanks for comments in advance,
S^2

The flare safe zone is above the line drawn from your ring finger to your PAP.
I'm not a driller, so take this advice with a big grain of salt. You could probably put the pin about 3" from your PAP, just above that line and the CG moved back toward grip center as far as possible to reduce the weighthole size.
Something like:
..........O..........O..................
............................P.............
........................CG.............
...............................PAP......
...........................................
...........................................
...........................................
................O..............V.........
................................A.........
................................L.........
Weighthole would probably end up near the pin?
