Roll out
« on: April 29, 2008, 10:34:55 AM »
I have noticed that my balls roll out alot more than anyone else I bowl with or against.

I have used several layouts, some better than others, but they all tend to roll out on me alot.

Are there any layouts that might help me avoid the rollout?  I typically try to use pin over the fingers drillings.

Right now I have a Neptune with the pin over ring and cg in palm and that ball wont roll out on me as long as there is some oil out there.

I know it has to do with amount of oil and ball speed etc. but when I see a guy throwing a Resurgence with slower speed, more rotation and I am throwing a Spitfire and Rival and even a Venus and battling rollout.  I am a med high tracker with approx 380 revs and throw it between 17-18 mph.

I could list all the balls I have had and what drills they had if that helps.  Any help would be appreciated.

It probably has to do more with your rotation of axis and the size of your track than with ball and surface. At least if others are not having this problem on the same conditions.Look more to changing your technique than trying to fix it with layouts. Most bowlers with roll out problems have little rotation of axis.In other words you are coming too much up the back of the ball. You may need to "get around the ball" a little more.

maybe move left, dont get it too far outside, stay in the oil.

If you are seeing your heavy oil balls do this and you are bowling on light oil/short oil, then you will need to polish the surface. This will give the ball more length and allow it to store its energy longer so that it can be used when it encounters the friction on the lane. If not, then your ball is using all of its energy on the front part of the lane and when it is used up, it will roll out when it gets to the dry. Surface changes are the easiest and quickest way to remedy this issue. Every ball needs to match its surface to the surface/friction of the lane. Hope this helps.

thanks for the help guys, I think I am gonna change my rotation and try to come around it more.  Surface changes haven't solved the problem and I haven't been throwing anything real aggressive lately, actually, aside from my Neptune, the one other ball that doesn't roll out as much as others is my Cell which is my heaviest oil ball.
