I'm guessing on layout..
« on: December 06, 2014, 11:06:12 PM »
Looking to understand what low flare layout works better for my dry situation.

Speed 16.5 down lane
Rev 300-320 range
Axis rot 55*- 65*
Tilt <10*

I've used pins to pap from 4.5" to 5.75" range on entry level balls like breeze, scouts 2004, jazz, slingshot, and now a crucial (lord field Pearl). I never had low flaring pins at 2" - 2.5" pins and I'm just wondering about these smaller pin distances, and are these layouts preferred for wet/dry conditions for bowlers like myself. Thanks.

Does a round object have sides? I say yes, pizza has triangles..

i had a 2.5" layout on a blue vibe and loved it. very effective for wet/dry house shots and short patterns. will deffinitely give you a more controlled arc rather than over/under city a lot of entry level balls can give you

With your ball speed, they should be just fine. They work like 5-6" pins in that distances from the magic (leverage) 3 3/8" in either direction reduces the potential flare and so produces less hook. The shorter pin distances, 1.5 - 2.5", hook earlier (I think they produce a lowered RG), like the longer ones, 5 - 6"  hook later (I think producing a actual higher RG). Of course, this is with all other factors, like VAL angle and Drill angle and surface, being the same.

We of less than average ball speed tend to need longer pins. I've tried a few short pins and they do what they're supposed to, as long as there's enough head oil. One pearl hot extra snappy; I haven't yet figured out how that happened.

Thanks guys..

I may give this a try on a slingshot sitting in the storage before using it on a NIB.

Pins closer to pap work better on wet/dries side to side as well as with dryer back ends...better controllability is created with a weight hole
When the lay down area dissipates, pins father from the pap should be facilitated to allow the all to get farther thru the lane before transitioning as well as weight holes
