Title: Effects of Finger Pitch/Span vs Pap Question
Post by: Brickguy221 on March 29, 2010, 03:42:23 PM
1. Does changing the F/R finger pitches change the PAP?

2. Does lengthing or shortening span change the PAP?

3. Does changing the lateral finger pitches change the PAP?

Reason for my question is that nos. 1 & 2 are older balls that I seldom use anymore and both have 2 different PAP''''s.

No. 3 is the new grip I have been using for a while now of which I love and it has a PAP different than Nos. 1 & 2.

When I asked my driller about this today, he said it didn''t matter, that all should have the same PAP......true or not for most people, I don''t know, but I do know for me all 3 balls above have different PAP''s.

I believe that different fits have a HUGE impact on release..hence changing your pap.  So I would say all three of those apply.

I made some major changes in my fit and in my case it has had made a profound chnnge in my pap and axis rotation. old pitches in thumb 0 lateral , 5/16 revers. My axis was 4 7/8 over and 1/4 up with an axis rotation of 60-70 degrees. New fit spans 1/8" shorter 1/4 left and 0 forward/reverse. Pap now 5 1/4 and 1/8 up. Axis rotation 45 degrees

This might be a bit off topic but something that I experienced was after having wrist surgery years back I've been forced to go back and forth from 14 to 15 and back again.  In doing so I've actually had the same ball...same layout, same fit punched up in both weights and have noticed a change in my pap as well.  Dropping to 14 seemed to make it easier to "come around the ball".

for me all 3 effect my pap....   when i was told to lower my ring finger(to get my ball into some what of a foward roll)  my pap got lower... then i started loftn the ball as well as getn around it WAY to much...
that lowering ring finger Krap really messed my game up for a bit!!

All 3 will have some affect on your PAP, roll and tilt, some more than others. Make sure you have a GOOD base fit before attempting ANY pitch variations. Doing them off of improperly fit span can cause injury. Seek a qualified IBPSIA Technician before you try any span or pitch changes.
