For 25 years my span was 4-7/8 x 5.
About 6 years ago after a 3 year layoff I resumed bowling, and a local "expert" convinced me that I needed to lengthen the span to 5 x 5-1/8 and move my reverse thumb pitch from 1/8 to 3/8! Zero pitch on the fingers. I used that for about a year, bowled well with it, but developed tendonitis in the elbow and was splitting open callouses on the fingerjoint creases and really crushing the edges on my finger grips. Dropped to 15# equipment, and went back to my original lifelong 4-7/8 x 5 and 1/8 reverse on the thumb - with no grips. Just recently, I've changed again. Lates specs:
Right-hand.
No grips.
Span (not cut to cut) - 4-7/16 x 4-9/16
MF 23/32 1/4R and 1/2 away.
RF 47/64 1/4R and 1/2 away.
Thumb 1/8 Forward - 0 lateral - 0 offset.
1-3/8 thumb slug custom ovaled.
NO pain anywhere since I got rid of the idiotic 1960's "stretch" span and put some away in the fingers.
