I use vise Exactacated Thumb Inserts and was wondering when drilling the thumb hole do you drill it straight since the pitch is in the molded into the insert or do you still drill the thumb hole with the same pitches???

Here we go. Waiting to see the responses here. Most will say to drill with the pitches and everything will magically equal out and be right.
My experience has been that doing that effectively doubles the pitches.
But, I''m just a guy drills my stuff in my garage, so don''t take anything I say as gospel.
Edit: I don''t have the official vise product, so maybe vise has a way to make the pitches correct. I came up with my own system as I didn''t have $200+ to spend since I only drill for myself.

im planning on drilling my own stuff very soon and was not 100 percent sure about that....

Drill it 0-0 unless your pitches are extreme. If the mold pushes hard against the side of the casting tube, then you will have to make adjustments.

I'm by no means a professional, but here's how I take it. When you pour the thumb insert, if you make sure the bottom of the hole part of the mold is centered in the outer sleeve, then your insert will be zero/zero pitched in comparison to the outside of the insert. Therefore you need to drill into the ball at your correct pitch. If you dont make sure the end of the mold is centered in the outer sleeve, then you will end up with an incorrectly pitched final product no matter how you drill into the ball. I often use a piece of a popsicle stick to space the mold from the outer sleeve while it sets.

I have been using these things for as long as Exactacator has been out. If you pour your mold correctly and center it in the tube you will be pouring your cast material into then you drill the ball with the pitches you need. I have used these for myself and numerous customers so I am sure someone would have complained by now. Plus the person I learned from was on Vise staff.

so you saying drill the ball with the normal pitches i use then install molded insert??

Didn't your kit come with instructions? If not, perhaps you should contact Vise customer support for instructions...I'm sure they would be happy to assist.

after you get one made, drill a hole into an old kick around at 0 to 0. and then insert it and check the pitches with a gauge. It may be necessary to pitch your holes differently than the desired pitches to get them accurate.

Line up the mold centered perfectly in the cylinder then drill for your pitches. That simple.
