Deadbait, you are thinking of vacugrips.  He is talking about a thumb switch grip.  JK, switch grips are a great product to have if your thumb swells a lot during competition.  You can just switch out different sized slugs.  Also, if you like the fit of one thumbhole, just switch it to the ball you are currently using and you have the same fit every time.  Switch grip thumb slugs have sold like hotcakes since they came out around here...

SwitchGrip is a nice idea, but there are a few downsides that outweigh the positives in my book.

This is what I see:

1. The 1 1/2" hole needed for the sleeve is excessive. Also, the hole needs to be opened up slightly after because the sleeve cannot fit in the hole too snug. This will make it impossible for the thumb to slide in and out easily.

2. Drill depths have to be hit perfect from ball to ball to be able to interchange thumbs. This makes it tough because some balls are undersized/oversized.

3. Time. Takes too much time for what it costs. I'd rather Exacticate a thumb!

4. Breaking the tabs was a fear, but Turbo has fixed that problem by revising and strengthening the plastic.

These factors may not hinder anyone else, because they come from a pro shop point of view. I just don't know about longetivity of this product.

Scott uses the switch in his equipment and has not much issues with his, however when drilling a few for other customers he has encountered the sizing issue. More time/effort is put into redrilling 1 1/2" sleeve then trying to fit the thumb in rather than popping in a std insert and fitting it. Have not seen/heard of any of the thumbs outser sleeves cracking which is a good sign. I have considered using the switch grip into my equipment but am not sure if I will truly like it or not. If I do great, if not, I will be plugging/reslugging a lot of bowling balls (or selling a bunch and drilling all new ones).

The Turbo Switch Grip is pretty easy to install in my opinion.
I've been using it for about 4 months now, and ive drilled alot of outter sleeves and 4 different inner sleeves.
Drilling the inners is just as long as drilling in any regular slug, it just takes an extra 30 seconds to drill and knock in the outter sleeve.
The drill depth for every outter sleeve is about 2 3/4 inches, and the outter sleeve is marked at the top with a white line, you just need to knock it in till that line... the depth is a constant.  Just knock it in with some slide powder without glue to see if the depth is right... pull it out and then glue it.
After have inners drilled i find it faster to drill balls, because all i have to do is drill a 1 1/2 hole a certain depth and there we go... i don't have to wait for my exactacator or custom thumb sleeve to cure.
But, like everyone is saying, its all about personal preference... i think its a neet tool and it is very useful, because even exactacator thumbs vary one from the other a little...
