Hi,
I am just beginning to learn how to drill bowling equipment. I have an older friend who is retired from the business and has taught me some things. I have drilled my own stuff (probably about 10-15 balls), and some for friends and my wife.
Anyway, I have a measured PAP distance of 5 1/2" over and 3/4" up. I am a high tracker, and when I try to stay up the back of the ball at release, with little rotation around the side of the ball, I tend to track over the edge of the thumb hole. If I use higher flaring drillings/equipment, then the track will quickly move off of the thumb hole. But the main problem is that I want to stay behind the ball with low flaring equipment on drier lanes, and often throw a big time thumper.
I have gotten better at staying behind the ball through my swing, and only rotating slightly at release to still keep a low axis of rotation, but also get myself off the thumbhole for my first rotation on the lane.
When looking at my oil track, I see that I am about 1/2" off of the finger hole, but about 1/4" on the thumb hole when staying behind the ball.
The main point of this question is, what will changing the 3/4" up in relation to my PAP to center of grip distance do? Would lowering it to 1/4" shift me closer to my finger holes and away from my thumb, or will it have no effect at all?
Any help would be greatly appreciated in regards to my release or my PAP.
Thanks,
Drew
