What's Your Span?
« on: February 10, 2010, 11:21:01 AM »
I am going to try to put a try it before you buy it program together over the summer with some of the new balls being released in the fall.

In order to do this I need to come up with a "generic grip" that will fit most people. I am thinking that it's around 4-1/4 to 4-3/8 for most men.

What's your span????

Well I'd have to use the Grip Loc switch thumb for now until I can pony up the cash to get the vise or turbo set up.

That's my span, right on the money. I know 2 others that are right around the same - we could all use the same ball if we had to.

You might even be able to go up to 4 1/2 and still be okay with a majority of people.

Cut to cut, 4 3/16 to middle, 4 1/8 to ring - bear in mind I have arthritis which reduces my span - unless of course I went to some really extreme adjustments in finger pitch - LOL

Gripping surface to gripping surface, both spans are 4 11/16", my RF span is shortened 3/16" because of severe joint stiffness (plus 5/8 reverse pitch on that finger).  I think you're in a good ball park with what you're planning to use.  Thumb and finger pitch variations can be taken care of on a trial ball by using smaller or larger inserts.  I've thrown balls I couldn't get my thumb or fingers into over half way well enough to see what the reaction would be.  --  JohnP
