inverted ball track question?
« on: July 25, 2006, 08:49:52 AM »
I normally use my thumb when bowling.  Recently I tired bowling without my thumb.  Not a two handed release.  A one handed release without my thumb.  I had very good success doing this.  It created a ton of revs and the pin action is unbelievable.  The area created in the pocket is rediculous.

My question is with the no thumb release I have an inverted ball track.  The bow tie seems to be a little higher than normal.  What kind of layout is best suited for lowering the bowtie?

I was thinking a low pin below the fingers type layout.  Does the low pin also lower the ball track?  The balls I was using had pins above the fingers in the leverage position.

I want to drill up one ball for the no thumb release.

Agreed with what jasellers said about the pin placement of the ball---I think I have 1 ball out of everything Ive drilled in the last 3 years that has a pin out farther than 2 inches...everything else is either 0-1 or more frequently 1-2. Its easier to use "normal" drillings while still keeping the pin down. Also reduces the need for outrageous weightholes.

IN GENERAL, AFAIK,
Weight holes 2.5 - 3" or more below or beyond the PAP wil lower the bowtie and create earlier and more flare.
Weight holes 2.5 - 3" inside or above the PAP will make the ball flare later and less.

with those increased revs from no thumb release you might be cautioned in using weight holes below your pap. i would avoid them on any ball with a reasonable amount of track flare. to still place a balance hole to increase flare try something like placing it 1 inch inside your pap pitched away from your palm 1 1/4 inches 2 1/2 inches deep. this will give the effect of a balance hole similarly of 6 3/4 inches.

i've seen players on many strong asymetricals have better success using this method of flare increasing holes over the traditional method of past the PAP/VAL.
