Pin in middle finger
« on: July 05, 2007, 11:27:44 PM »
I have heard a few success stories when drilling the pin in the ring finger. Has anyone drilled the pin in their middle finger and what did you like or dislike about it?

I have a ball that spec wise( 2-2.5 inch pin-4 oz TW) isn't too conducive to putting the pin above the fingers. And I don't do well with pin under drillings.

I thought this may be a good compromise.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Depending on where the rest of your layout goes, using a pin in the ring finger will lower your differential, tighten your flare pattern and give you an even reacting, smoother ball. I have an SR300 drilled that way. It's just slightly shifted off the CG and the MB is just low and left of my thumb. I love it.

To see the reaction, go to http://www.putfile.com/k-dawg77 and watch the "Doubles" video.

Pin-in-finger is not a specific drill, it is rather a result if the ball driller is forced to place the pin due to pin distance and weight distribution and warranty relative to your PAP. The PAP will determine what the ball will do for you if the pin ends up in the middle finger hole.

With your PAP, the ball should have good length but not a too sharp break point. I guess it will be good on outside shots on medium conditions but this also depends on the ball itself and its surface prep. The pin distance of 2-2.5" does not leave much room, unless you put the pin under the fingers and maybe swing the CG out for eralier roll and arc (uh, dangerous statement these days with the cgnomaddah discussions). Anyway, you will most probably avoid overreactions with this pin placement. Not a bad desicion, IMHO.

In my case, it was specific. However, you're right in most cases.
