finger grip shims

I saw a video by innovative, where he said not to glue the top of the grips so that you can put a shim there to tighten the grip if you need to. I was wondering if anyone else has ever heard this and tried it,I was also wanting to know what you would use as the shim. The video is on the innovative site under installing finger grips.

I don't use inserts, but I think you can use matches or cut a business card into slim strips.

I use playing cards, been doing it for years. The smooth coating makes them easier to put in and take out.

Use vacu-grips so you don't have to worry about it.

Found the site for them .... I have some and have used them for years with GREAT success (tried vacu-grips but they didn''t suit me).

Small wood coffee stirrers work pretty good also--just put them in and break them off flush with the ball.  Unfortunately, I don't know where you can still get wood b/c most use plastic now.

I've never done it, but heard of it.  Also, it would work if you are in between sizes.  

Same thing as adding a small piece of tape to the hole if you don't use finger grips.

I find VISE are the most pliable and softest compared to Turbo or Tenth Frame inserts ..... more comfortable grip and more lift with VISE as well.  Only drawback is they wear out quicker than Turbo grips to me anyway.

Glues just the "front part" of the insert. The side where your finger pads are.
I put a lot of paper between the insert and the ball on my inserts. So when my fingers swell, i just removes some of the paper bits.

I recommend using tape.  Just peel the back of the insert away from the ball and insert tape.  Very easy to do and has been done for many years.

Agreed.  I used to have to shim my inserts some days when it was cold, and on warmer days take out the sliver of business card I was using as a shim.  Now that I've been using Vacu-Grips for over a year, I don't have to ever use a shim anymore.  The fingergrips always perfectly fit.  The only downfall is having to replace grips more frequently as they stretch out with use, but it's worth it in my opinion.

i have done it with pieces of tape as well. i think it works great. the downside is that if you don't glue the other spots well enough the grip is susceptible to coming out during use.

I STRONGLY RE recommend the Milosports shims ... they are 1/64" thick and EASILY inserted and removed. I found that a drop of super glue GEL at 3, 6, and 9 o''clock with your inserts works best ... that leave the top (12 o''clock) to insert these shims. I have even used two side by side in one hole before with no problem.

I appreciate everyones comments on this, it is just something i haven't tried yet. My ring finger grip is just a little bit to loose, so i think i am going to try either a playing card or business card. This Looks like something that has been around for a long time, strange that i never heard of it until now.
