Finger grips a little too large
« on: January 02, 2006, 10:05:01 AM »
I was wondering what effect this would have on throwing a ball.  I noticed since getting new grips put in that they feel a little too loose, and Im guessing I might be gripping the ball a bit too tight.  My release is nowhere as smooth as it once was and doesn't feel right yet.

I've just had all new measurements done on all my equipment, so there are too many variables for me to pin it on one thing.  It was found that my span was too long and was causing a blister on the base of my thumb.

D <~~~~ Used to be terrible wiffing 10 pins.  Now through much practice, can wiff any single pin spare at any time.

thumbs as well as fingers swell with the weather humidity, time of the year, body chemistry (morning, noonn, or night), amount of salt or beer or coffee consumed.

I glue the the inserts at the sides and put shims (cut up busiess cards) in the back of the fingers between the insert and the drilled hole. 1, 2 , 3 depening on the how my fingers fit. Take them out and install them with a small flat bladed screwdriver, as needed.

FIngers will swell up as you warmup, in the winter, once you have gotten inside the center and as you warm up during practice. Then remove 1 or 2 or whatever, or as you drink coffee or beer.

You can use a piece of a cork thumb insert on the back (inside) of the finger grip to snug it up a little.  --  JohnP

I do what Charlest says, but if you have to put in too many pieces in one place to make the holes tight enough, it can sort of flatten the hole too much and make it too ovaled and not fit well.

JohnP, you just gave me a reminder of something I've been thinking about but had forgotten. I've been thinking about cutting pieces of white or Slick Tape and inserting them on the back (inside) of the finger grip. Unless the grip is really loose, the corck might be a bit too much. All depends how tight a person wants his grips to fit. When mine are fitted right whether shimmed or not shimmed, I like them to be a wee bit on the loose side.
