Any use a 1" pin to PAP?
« on: January 13, 2007, 12:27:02 PM »
I was thinking of drilling up a ball with a 1" pin (from PAP) to try to smooth the reaction on THS. I have it drawn up with Pin 1" and Cg 3".

I've never had a ball like this before and was wondering what to expect. All help appreciated.

Thanks

johns911,

A lot will depend on your hand release strength.  If you have enough release strength to keep the ball coming, this layout works pretty well.

If, on the other hand, you have a mild release, this layout would be VERY condition specific. Can you rev said it well.  This layout needs either a strong release or flying backends, but would probably work best with a combination of the two.

What putting the pin that close to the pap does is minimize the flare potential of the ball and gets it into a very early roll.  With a weaker release, this causes a ball to burn up all its energy too early and be "dead on arrival", if you get my drift.  That's why the strongish hand release works much better with this set-up. More energy input means more left to burn.
