Short pin q.
« on: February 21, 2008, 05:12:55 AM »
Well my Doom came in today with a shorter pin than I anticipated. It's almost exactly 2 inches. problem with that is, I really want to go pin above bridge, and it's got 3 oz of top weight. wouldn't be so inconcievable if i used grips, but i do not. fingertipped, no inserts. any way to drill it with the pin above the fingers still?

here's some pics so you can get an idea of how small my fingers are (relative to the pin)...

Put the pin where you want it and kick the cg right past the centerline about 1 1/2".  Weigh it and add a balance hole to the right of the finger holes to get the weights legal.  Just be sure the track won't flare over the balance hole.  --  JohnP

For those people that dont like weight holes. I have seen some guys drill there finger holes, then use a slightly smaller bit then reverse it and add some pitch in order to make the finger holes larger at the bottom of the hole.

Heres a profile of a very crude example of what I'm talking about.

Matt, you should be fine.  Your fingers "may" have to be drilled deeper (for USBC standards).  Pls keep in mind that when we shorten the core, it also decreases our length on that piece as well.  Hope this helps some...
