Are you asking about forward/reverse pitches or lateral pitches?

If you drill 0 lateral, there's a chance that the fingerholes will meet at the bottom, creating a weakpoint. So generally these pitches are set so that the holes miss each other. As far as forward/reverse goes, it comes down to comfort, as a rule, more forward = more revs, however, it depends on how stiff/flexible your fingers are as to how much forward pitch you can use.

I have very stiff fingers, and have 1/2" and 3/4"reverse on them, that said I don't have any problems getting revs on the ball with this setup.

As a rule of thumb (or should that be finger..) if the pitches you use are comfortable and don't cause any physical injury (loss of sensation, pins and needles, bruising, good old fashioned pain) then leave them alone. If you want to play around then you can but bear in mind the ill effects which can occur...

Bill Taylor says lateral pitches are for comfort, forward reverse pitches are for function.

I'm not sure on the lateral pitch comments above but agree on the forward/reverse.

Getting a trained eye to watch you release helps a great bit.  Fingers out too early is too much reverse for your span thumb pitch setup.  Fingers in too long and too much hit is too much forward.

I just decided my timing had my fingers out a little early and thumb a little late.  Reduced my reverse finger pitch(more time fingers in the ball) added reverse to thumb(slightly for quicker thumb release) and the total result was more seperation between a now earlier thumb release and later finger release(old style).

I am liking the way I am throwing and have seemed to increase MY area with this slight change.  1/8 less reverse on fingers.....1/8 more reverse on thumb!

PS to complicate things I slightly altered lateral ring finger pitch also!
