Drill suggestion for heavy carrydown
« on: August 23, 2003, 02:35:42 AM »
We have a couple of tournaments here every year that always seems to have heavy carrydown..  Tough to wrinkle anything on it.  What type of drilling would work best on this type of shot.

3 3/8 x 5, 4x3 or a stacked drilling.

I know the 1:30 type drills should give me a hard arc where the 10:30 should be more controlled backen and the stacked snappier.

Any thoughts

If the lanes are truly that oily nothing will hook. You must get friction for a ball to hook, if there is no dry there is no friction. I'd suggest trying a urethane ball straight up the 12-13 board. Maybe even a buzzsaw XXXL.

Ok, I'll the one to say it AGAIN.
Forget about the drilling; get an oiler and drill it any way you like. It's the ball, the surface that matters, ESPECIALLY in this case. Get one of

Lane#1 Super Carbide Bomb,
Columbia Throttle,
Track Phenom or Mutant,
Visionary Midnight Scorcher,
Brunswick Swamp Monster,
Hammer Vicious or Diesel Particle solid,
Ebonite APex Addiction.

Then drill it anyway you're copmfortable. With heavy oil the actual drill will make little difference, unless the actual ball is not really strong enough.
One of the strongest earliest rolling drills for a true oiler is a pin at leverage (3 3/8" from PAP) and CG on PAP.

If you can't make one of the above balls, sanded to 400, drilled as suggested above, hook on any legitimate oil pattern, then  ....

Super Carbide Bomb?

If Charles's(not charlest, charles)review on the SCB is true(read it), you can make the ball hook.  But I find it EXTREMELY hard to believe though.

Sorry. Wasn't me. Not enough oil in all of NJ for me to use that ball.
