Fitting and the Modern Release
« on: January 06, 2015, 02:44:44 PM »
Is there any special considerations for fitting someone who is working towards doing a modern release?

Are there preferred thumb hole pitches?
Concerns on the span...side towards more stretch or less stretch?

Just curious.

Or have them just go to the pro shop and get the standard fitting.

The new style release is geared more around the swing that creates it...either you do or you try...if you're trying, it's not natural, ie if you learned the game with a contemporary style it becomes very difficult to understand and/or accomplish
I actually work with a few guys that are working on some changes and it's difficult...and very individual
You can make changes with the grip to help facilitate a softer hand and/or release but it's a feel thing...to some feeling less confuses or perplexes them

rico is right. when i worked to become more modern so to say, it does feel very different and weird. i didnt change anything with my grip and i naturally gained axis tilt and speed. even explaining it to people that still have a more traditional game the look on their face is pure confusion because youre telling them the correct way is the complete opposite of what they were taught and have been doing with success for 30+years.

the trick to converting to the modern game is to pick a system, commit to it and dont look back. i chose Slowinski's DYDS. in my mind theres no going back to the old way. when you take away the option to go back you force yourself to be successfull

Would it make sense to maybe drop ball weight when working on this release?

what is the modern release? cup and collapse? the roll the ball off the hand?

I'm guessing the "old school" way was hitting up on the ball at release......
Does a round object have sides? I say yes, pizza has triangles..

It's a multiple views instead of merely one...such as the release
