finding PAP....
« on: April 30, 2010, 08:52:49 AM »
two part question...how do you find your pap and how to you find out if the other part by the pap is up or down? I have no clue what mine is. Every time I go to a pro shop they ask me what my pap is. I usually just say I have a medium track and go from there however I change my release to so wouldn't that change your pap? I mean what if you dramatically change to a completley different release? What good is your pap measurements then?

Armidillo. Any reputable pro shop will have one. If they ask you what is your pap, but do not know how to locate it, you are probably in the wrong shop.

AMF sales a disc with their armidillo that tells you how to use it, although it is not that complicated. Basically you take a plastic ball (some will argue what ball to use), roll it with your regular release through the oil on the lane so that it will leave an oil track, line up the armidillo with the first track and it will mark your pap.

Based on my experiments, me changing my release does not change my pap significantly. What I have found is that my pap changes more depending on the ball and the layout on the ball. Again, my personal experience.

I had three or four balls drilled by different pro shops and noone ever measured my pap. The balls rolled o.k. and one of the guys had actually watched me bowl quite a bit. Still, he was just doing basic label drillings. That is what drove me to purchase equipment and learn to drill my own balls (plus it is more fun.)
