In my experience even a 1/16th variance is unnaceptable. My driller is SPOT ON with EVERY drill...not even a 128th off (and he has literally drilled hundreds of balls for me). It took another driller 3 tries before he got it just right( I measured after each drill, called him and said "you're 3/32nd's off" and he'd adjust the specs accordingly) and now he too is spot on.
A sixteenth of an inch can make quite a difference depending on how stretched your span is, or, for someone like myself with hand/wrist issues it's absolutely imperative that the drilling be accurate as possible (and it IS possible to be exactly right).
