Flare increasing weight hole for high tracker?
« on: February 28, 2007, 10:04:50 AM »
I am a high tracker with a PAP of 6 1/8in., the other night I took my Hawgzilla into my bowling center and told the guy I wanted to put a WH in the ball, I had been watching Brunsnicks weight hole video, and since I had a weak drilling on my Zilla I wanted to try to get some more out or it with an experiement to see how this weight hole thing worked. I was wanting to put a weight hole 2 1/4in past my PAP. Heres the problem, when i took the ball back to the shop area, and located my PAP, after looking at my oil rings and where the ball was rolling at, there was no way that I could put a weight hole 2 1/4 past my PAP, the ball would be rolling over that hole at the end of the lane, once it is going into the pins or at its poiunt where it is turning the corner hard.

So I instead went with the 2 1/4in down my VAL, we drilled 13/16 weight hole there 2in. deep. I took it out and rolled it and my oil line on that side of the ball was about 1/2in from rolling over the hole, putting that WH in it gave it better space inbetween the flare rings which was good to see, and gave it a slight bit more hook.

Question is, do people with farthed away PAP's like in the 6+ range have trouble putting 2 1/4in. past PAP flare increasing weight holes in balls without clipping the weight hole when it igets in its roll towards the pins at the end of the lane?

If some my typing and explanation is a little bit confuing write about it I will try to clear it up for ya. I am confused with this, because I am wanting to get one in another ball, and is looking like it is not possible, maybe my tilt or axis rotation or something is causing this????

I thought my Hammers hit hard, until I whipped a LM/L ball into the pocket. WOW!

Up to 2" past the VAL is usually OK.  But when going that far, you should always mark the proposed location with a layer of 4 - 5 pieces of tape and roll the ball.  If it hits the tape, the ball will "thump".  If it doesn't hit the tape, most likely it won't hit the hole.  I say most likely because the hole can increase the flare, so it's not a sure thing.  I think this procedure is even safer than checking the track on the ball.  --  JohnP

I suppose it comes down to how much rotation you put on the ball.

Glad to see it worked for you, and definitely read what JohnP says, great idea!
