« on: February 20, 2015, 07:44:34 PM »
Just for fun has anybody ever flipped the ball 180 deg before the layout and used the psa as the pin and the pin as the psa? if so what did it do or what would happen???

Would guess inverted flare that would roll over the holes.  On very long pin - out balls, I've measured 13.5" from the pin to get to the bottom of the core and used that as the virtual pin in the layout.

There was a local trend in nw Indiana where I saw a 'few' red missions inverted.  I was told it was a secret tip lol..and it calmed the reaction down of the ball for guys with too much hand.

Sounds like the 315 deg layout from years back.

Sounds like a full roller layout.
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

Isn't that the Boomer layout?

Thanks for the input guys. I actually did this drilling a few years ago for a guy that was basically a spinner with tons of hand and on a roto cell with 3.5 inch pin it worked real good for him on slower lanes. It didn't invert for him and it just was a heavy rolling low flaring piece for him.I was just wondering if it would work across the board??

I still use the 315, and the pin stays in the same spot....

I have thought about it myself though, back in the old Rhino PRo days.
The difference between the teal, and the T2 was that the core was inverted,
and I loved the T2.

Sounds like the 315 deg layout from years back.

From an old document I have Mario's Secrets (hope it copied right lol):

The 315 degree layout system
The final layout we would like to show you can only be used on a Pin-In ball (1" or less) that has the mass bias premarked. This is the 315 Degree layout. Since there are 360 degrees around the ball, you can simply use a 45 degree angle on the opposite side of the line to produce the 315. Once the ball is drilled, the static weights must be checked to see where an extra hole will be needed. The extra hole can be put above the PAP because the chances are that the player will not flare that far. If, however, flare is a problem, then use a smaller, deeper hole to bring the ball back to legal, and let the ball flare over the hole. If the starting lop weight is low enough, then drill the finger holes very deep.

This layout can only be used in special balls and laid out by an experienced ball-driller.
The advantage of this layout?
The ball should deliver a smooth, hard arc on the backend, even when release mistakes are made. The amount of hook is generally the same, and the ball follows the same path, even if you attempt to 'hit it a bit harder' or 'back off' the release.
This ball is used on shots which require accuracy in the first 30 feet of lane, but still need hitting power at the backend. To be more accurate usually requires less hand action, which is exactly what this layout likes.

Isn't that the Boomer layout?
yes. Devaney and Rhino used the Boomer a few years ago on TV.

The Boomer puts the pin directly below the thumb, the cg in your center grip, and MB above the fingers. Not sure we are talking about the exact same layout
