Analysis please!
« on: October 28, 2004, 05:02:31 PM »
As a med speed, rev-challenged lefty with a high axis tilt, I've never been able to say "the ball hooks too much". Finally, I have one that does. Now I want to understand why and base my next purchase off that analysis.

First, the hook monster in question is an Ultimate Inferno... great ball, great pin action. It's seen in the following pic:
http://www.pgcaglassclub.com/ui1.jpg
The grease pencil dot is the CG, and the X marks my believed PAP, 5 x 3/4 up. The ball is basically drilled 3-3/8 by 1-3/4 if the PAP is correct, and I believe it's pretty close. The weight hole is drilled away, I believe to preserve flare.

Analysis of this balls theoretical reaction is apppreciated. Would you agree that for my style this ball should hook heavily in med-heavy flood?

More hook on wood than synthetic, but decent in both cases. On wood however, THS (LEFT HAND THS, fairly flooded compared to you righties) I can stand 27 and shoot out to 7, and it crosses Jersey. I'd call it a strong arc with major turn at 38-42 feet.

Yes, I know that the basic answer could be "do what works for you", but I want to uderstand it better so I can build from there. I've tried a bunch like this and also 3-3/8 stacked (pin at finger and pin below finger), but this ball outdoes them all.
Serious commentary appreciated.

There are a few factors that make this ball hook more for you.
1 The ball is quit strong to begin with.
2 having a 3 3/8" pin location gives the ball maximum flare for you
3 having the MB on or near your VAL causes the ball to loose axis tilt and rotation quicker and you stated that you have a high degree of tilt.

I am guessing that before you weren't getting other balls you have used into a strong roll, because they still had to much tilt.

Another possible factor is the plug work, more then likely the old righty holes were deep enough to remove some core material and that would have lowered the RG slightly and probably increased the differential a bit.

Guys, that's exactly the analysis I needed, and a great help. I appreciate it a lot.
And yes, I did let a righty break it in, but the UI seems to be such a strong ball it got over the Trauma of spinning backwards.
