"Your secret weapon"
« on: June 12, 2009, 11:52:33 AM »
This month's issue of BTM suggests that lower rev bowlers' ability to throw straight gives us an advantage on dry lanes or reverse block situations.  They suggest drilling a bowling ball to have more of a forward release rather than to the left by putting the mass bias and the pin in a relatively straight line near or to the left of the grip center line.  Looking at the picture, it looks something like this:

(0=finger/thumbhole, p=pin, m=mass bias)

---0-0---
----p----
---------
---------
-----m---
---------
----0----

As a medium revs stroker, I'm thinking this would be a good ball in the bag.  They suggest a reactive ball with a cylindrical-shaped core.

I'm wondering if I should plug and redrill a Brunswick BVP Wizard I have in the closet (and put some polish on it) or buy something new?

Anybody else have experience using a ball with this sort of layout?

That is a good layout. I have a Storm Gravity Force(which is an overseas version of the Virtual Energy) with that layout and that ball is just awesome!!

You gotta have a really big hand to be able to put the pin and mb between your fingers. lol

Is that supposed to be the MB or the CG?

If that's the MB, something is either wrong with the ball or you have a gigantic span.  If it is the CG it is very similar to my favorite drill pattern.

I'm thinking they probably mean swing the MB out to the right at that angle (i.e., the OP didn't draw enough -------'s in his diagram). I'll check my magazine tonight and see.
