Generic P.A.P. Location?
« on: October 04, 2009, 01:55:38 AM »
Well after seeing several posts regarding the P.A.P.

I remembered seeing a "generic" P.A.P. location, it was either on a drill sheet or in a mag. article about layouts.

You used it for laying out a ball when you didn't have the persons P.A.P.(Like for a new bowler).

Anyone know what that "generic" P.A.P. location was?

The NVS from Ebonite had it's #1 layout on the drill sheet as being used for "length with good backend" and "if the PAP of the bowler is unknown."

If I have to drill a ball when I don''t know the customer''s PAP I lay it out with the pin to the right of the ring finger (rightie) and the cg located to give about 1/2 oz each of positive side weight and finger weight.  This normally only happens when a customer is changing from a conventional drill to fingertip.  --  JohnP

Right, ring finger.  I must have been asleep when I posted that one, I've corrected it.  --  JohnP

Well Im going thru my back issues of BTM, I think thats where I saw it.

But Ill say the 5"over 1"up is it, I found it mentioned in a Hammer drill sheet. As the PAP they based the layouts on.

plus found these also.
--------------------------------
Hammer
Note: The drilling instructions are based on a bowlers positive axis point of 5" over and 1" up

Columbias Symmetric Drilling Instructions used this one-
PAP used is of a bowler with coordinates of 5 inches over and a 1/2 inch up.

Columbia Drilling Instructions
For a 3/4 roller (ball track just outside of the fingers and thumb), the PAP is approximately 5 inches over along the midline and 1/2 inches up along the vertical axis line

Storms key_drilling guide uses it in their example also
(EXAMPLE: If PAP is measured to be 5” right and 1” up, then measure down 1” along PAL and 5” left. You have now located the grip center.)

Ebonite
The following illustrations are based on a PAP of 5 inches across and 1 inch up from the center of span.

Track
All diagrams are based on a PAP of 5” over and .5” up.

Bowl-Tech_News_November_2007 from "Finding a bowlers PAP"
4-Now measure from your center of span straight right or left, then measure up or down and record how far from your center of span the PAP is. The drawing shows a "normal" right handed axis of 5" right and 1" up.
