Generic PAP
« on: September 06, 2011, 04:31:32 AM »
If someone walks into the proshop and wanna buy a ball
But the bowler doesn't have a pap
Is there any generic pap that we can use as a reference to map the ball?

Thanks

If you use 5 over and 1/4 up you will be pretty close to most bowlers. That's about as close to generic as you can get.

I would have said 4.5-5" over and 1/2" up, but either is plenty close for a generic PAP.  None of us really need to be accurate within 1/2".  If you're not WRW or Norm Duke you can't repeat shots good enough for it to matter.  It's super quick to measure if the bowler has a ball he can throw pretty well.

Wrong question, IMHO. If the PAP is unknown, you might use a label layout for a 1st reactive ball. CG in palm, symmetrical core, pin at 1:30, wherever it ends up, be it a pin-in or pin-out ball. This layout can pretty much ignore the PAP, it will most probably be legal and it shows an arcing motion with the focus on mid lane action.

Great for beginners, both reaction-wise and as a 1st ball option to develop a fingertip release (with a stable PAP to work with in the future - if the release is good, chances are high that the user will need a ball with more length in the future, and probably step up in weight).

Your customer DOES have a PAP, he just doesn't know what it is.  It's a BIG part of your job to locate it for him.  --  JohnP
