Mutant Cell vs. Invasion
« on: April 09, 2010, 11:21:48 AM »
A Mutant Cell and an Invasion magically appeared on my doorstep.

From the specs listed on this site (see below), I'm presuming that the Invastion coverstock is a good bit more aggressive.  Based on the numbers alone, I thought about giving them the same layout.  Can anyone tell me if these balls are different enough that I could use similar layouts and end up with distinctly different reactions?

Mutant Cell
- Factory Finish: 2000 Abralon
- Track Flare Potential: 7" Plus
- RG Average: 2.52
- RG Differential: .048
- Recommended Lane Conditions: Medium-Heavy Oil

Invasion
- Ball Finish: 4000-grit Abralon
- Flare Potential: 6” Plus
- RG Average: 2.48
- RG Differential: .057
- Recommended Lane Condition: Heavy Oil

Just going by the numbers you posted,I would say yes.Of course, cover prep will play a part.

I have both and I have them both drilled the same, 4 x 4 x 2.  The biggest difference for me is the shape of the reaction.  The Mutant is much longer and more angular in the backend, while the Invasion has a great mid-lane read and a stronger continuation through the pins.  I actually stand a little more right (I'm a lefty) with my Mutant, but that depends on your oil conditions.  Both need a lot of oil up front, they are the strongest pieces in my arsenal.  But, I've found uses for both and I think they are different enough to own both of them.  Hope this helps.

I would probably still drill the Invasion just a smidge weaker than your intended layout on the Mutuant.
