For some bowlers, a drilled out pin would be 5" from the PAP, while for others, it could only be 3" from the PAP. You could use any numbers in the examples given. The pin is just a locating device to aid in drilling the ball to obtain a certain reaction. One does not drill out the pin to obtain a reaction. One locates the pin a certain distance from the PAP, determines the latitude of the pin, then drills the holes. If the pin gets drilled out, so be it.
