Help! Broke my drill press!

The pinion return spring broke last night, not a good feeling while you are drilling a new ball for a customer. I've been searching on the net and can't find many suppliers. The piece is a round coiled spring that goes in the left side under the tension adjust cap. My press is a Rockwell 15-665 15" 6 speed 6" travel. The part nu is 402-04-331-5002. A place in Nebraska online can order but is 2-3 weeks out.Does any one know a good supplier? Thaks guys....I'm thinking a bungee cord wrapped around......     Al

Is this spring something you can replace yourself?  Is it a fairly standard looking spring that maybe a hardware store such as Lowes or Home Depot might have, at least close enough to get you back up and running until the official Rockwell part comes in?

It is a coiled flat ribbon style spring under the tension adjust cap and is unique to bowling style presses due to the longer 6" stroke. Yes very easy to replace but Lowes etc., and even hardware stores do not have a supplier for them. I finally found a source on the net . ToolBarn.com    They will ship it on Mon. and will be here in 2 days unless my luck runs as normal....in the mean time I will need to grow an extra arm to run shop vac drill etc.   I rigged up a bungee but that looked like an easy way to loose an eye or finger if it released.    Hope problem is cured and hope this helps others....Don't know if this is common or not, but $85 for that little thing seemed a bit pricey.    Thanks, Al

Well as my luck usually runs, mine is smack in the middle..probably could rebend and get pinion to return part way....drilled a couple thumbs today with it broke and I was fumbling..ok lift pinion, start drill, reach over kick on vac, remember to lock pinion up at top before letting go of handle, stop drill,....I guess thats why they make a pinion spring.   Thanks for the tip though, Al
