HELP! High track OVER thumb - PIN POSITION?
« on: May 05, 2003, 04:48:41 PM »
I have a high track closer to thumb than fingers. On all of my balls the track is high but on the high flaring balls its lower. The three balls that I experience the tracking over the thumb all are plastic, or low flare balls like my Stinger low flare. I have read on here before that the pin needs to be Above the finger line?

I am drilling a new ball this afternoon and, need some advice on this. IF placing the pin above the finger will help this problem, why is this? Can anyone explain why? My ball driller disagrees with me and, I have no clue why this might help.

Anyone?

BT,
For me, I keep the pin even or just above my ring finger.....depending on the pin to pap distance I have the drilling it will be either over or next to my ring.

It is said that if you want to do a lower pin placement, you can place the pin in a position that is actually below the ring finger but if you were to draw a line from the pap thru the pin and the line goes OVER your finger holes, you'll be fine......most of my stuff looks like this:
......p
..O.Op.p   ( all p's equal different pin placements)

...O

Thanks Jeff.

What I have found so far in my searching this am to provide a lower track:

1. less span (more relaxed grip)
2. positive side weight
3. balance hole in thumb quadrant
4. pin above line from fingers to PAP

And , what my driller and some others say:

CHANGE YOUR RELEASE!

Ok, yes, I agree, changing my release WILL fix this! So, now that I have improved my game upwards of 20 pins in average, all of a sudden I need to change my release? Easier said than done for me anyway. I DO tend to stay behind the ball longer than maybe I should... Maybe it's time for a lesson or 2.

I USED TO HAVE SAME PROBLEM UNTIL I OFF-SET MY THUMB.MY THUMB IS 7/16" OFFCENTER TO THE LEFT(RIGHT HANDED BOWLER,I`AM)OF THE CENTER OF MY GRIP. THIS ALSO MAKES THE BALL FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE IN MY HAND.

Thanks for the responses!

I have an offset thumb already. (CLT method)

I guess there isnt an answer to this in drilling. The ball has nothing to do with how I release it onto the lane. At least a low flaring ball. The high flaring balls flare in the air away from the thumb so they arent a problem.

I will work on my release, but not too sure where to start at this point.

I suppose I need to get out of the thumb and apply more axis with the fingers?
