help drill question
« on: May 10, 2004, 02:42:19 PM »
My grandfather is a low rev, med speed, high tracker.  He bought a Sheer Havoc, I suggested a 4 1/2 by 3 1/2 layout.  He does throw 15lbs.

He currently has:
Brimestone Monster 2 x 2
Contact Zone 2.0 stacked
Fuze Ignitor 5 x 5
V2 sanded stacked
Predator stacked

The majority of his equipment reacts the same.  I drilled him the Monster and Fuze.  He likes them both, they have totally different reactions than the others.  Would the 4 1/2 by 3 1/2 be a good choice or not????

Thanks,
Andrew

Andrew,

I can see the 4 dull balls being similar, but the Ignitor also reacts the same for him??? Generally the smaller the hook a person throws, whether because of low revs or ball speed, the less differences one will see with various balls AND drillings.

The Ignitor, the new Sheer Havoc (esp with its smooth shell) and anyone of the other 4 should be a virtual 3 ball arsenal for him.

However, I am VERY surprised that with the 2x2 drilling of a Brimstone that he gets any length at all, except of the very heaviest of oil patterns.

Charlest-Thanks for the help.  The Monster stays in the closet most of the time.  I have to educate him on "Particles 101", he said it wouldn't hook at all for him.  The ignitor gets the most length for him and a nice turn to the pocket.  The predator and contact zone are very close he said.  I talked to him tonight this is what he has:

everything previously listed
2 messengers ti
werewolf
sapphire zone
4d
gold quake

I told him he has a bunch of particles and reactive pearls.  I told him to bring it all with him when he comes to visit and we would go through and weed out the junk.  All he wants is something different than what he has.

Hey Andrew,

Out of those balls, most seem like they would just over hook for him based on his profile.  The longest ball would be the Igniter of the bunch.  From the new batch listed below, I'd keep the Sapphire(nice even longer ball) and maybe one of the TI Mess(pearl preferred).

The Sheer based on what I'm hearing should be okay at that drill, might want to put a lite coat of polish if it doesn't create enough natural length for him.

Let him pick 2 of the hooking balls and he's done, I also agree with Charlest on the Brimstone.  Maybe it's not hooking because it's actually rolling too early and then pooping out.

Rick,

Yeah, I have tried to explain to him that the Brimestone needs OIL to perform.  I told him not to just toss it up ten.  He used it once with success, playing from 15 out to 10.  I said, "oh you found some oil huh".  Like i said, I have to educate him about particles.

I suggested he keep the this arenal:

Brimestone
Sheer Havoc
V2
Sapphire Zone
Messenger
Ignitor

What do ya think?

Looks pretty good, out of the hooking stuff, I also like the Brimstone and V2.  Unfortunately, I kind of understand your Grandfather.  Sometimes it's hard to believe todays equipment actually hook or react that much, that may be the reason for him wanting to stay at 10.  On certain occasions, I have a problem believing that the breakpoint is at 50 ft(but it is).  I've got 2 customers like this also so all I let them have on a normal basis is pretty much the harder stuff or I'll gloss up the softer equipment and make it more useable for them.  Hope some of this helps...
