help getting thumb weight out of my ball!!!!
« on: August 20, 2003, 02:02:32 AM »
I justdrilled up a Hot rod.  3.5 - 4 in pin.  3.52 top weight.   I went off of the storm spec sheet for drilling number 2.  Pin and CG 3 3/8 from my pap.  Then it said to drill a weight hole in the pap to bring down the weight.  Well I drilled the weight hole and before I noticed I took top weight out.  My question is?  Can I drill my finger holes deeper or my thumb to make my ball legal.  I now have 1 1/2oz. of thumb weight.  I would like to make it within the legal 1oz. limit.  Please help me with this problem.  Thank you, Derek

Derek,

The problem is, the ball.. Its a Storm and NOT a Hammer!!

So have you drilled had the chance to drill up the 2 new hammers yet? I just traded for a NIB Sling Blade and Vicious Attack and I'm not selling them this time!! I am gonna drill em up..

I'm sure someone here that drills balls for a living can answer your question..

Good luck Derek..

Wha???

Unless you have fingers bigger than Paul Bunyan there is no way
you could have drilled off 3.5 ounces of top weight.  The average hand takes out 1.5 ounces of top weight.  A bigger hand takes out about 2 ounces of top weight.

Also you seem confused about thumb and top weight.

Which is it???
Also thumb weight is frequently caused by putting the cg well below the grip midline!

I still have about 2 ozs of top weight.  That is fine.  But like I said according to my scale by balancing the ball with the fingers on top starting with the finger holes pointed towards the weights and the thumb opposite.  I have my front beam on 0.  Then I rotate the ball 180 and I have to move the beam 1 1/2 ozs to the left.  That according to my notes means that I have 1 1/2ozs of thumb weight.  Please let me know if this is correct because I am new at drilling equipment and testing some stuff out.  I used a 23-32 bit and drilled it 2 1/2inches deep.  Like I said i am new and I know that I am going to make mistakes and I appreciate any help offered.  My CG is pretty low like you said Luckylefty Also Precision to answer your question.  My pap is 5 1/2 over and 1/2 up.  Thanks for the help, Derek

Before you completely plug the balance hole, you might try this -- pour the hole half full of plugging material, let it set up, then reweigh for balance and see if you've helped the situation.  If so, add more plug material until it is legal.  If not, then you can go ahead and completely plug the hole and start from scratch. -- JohnP
