Help in fine tuning a layout
« on: January 03, 2014, 09:16:09 AM »
I am a 200+ average bowler and after alot of trial and error, I have come up with 2 basic favorite layouts.    Pin Up 65 x 5 x 35 for length and strength and a Pin down 50 x 4 x 70.

I just picked up a Marvel Pearl that I want to and I am looking for thoughts from the BR community before I meet with my driller this coming week.     Ideally it would compliment my Hy Road pearl drilled at 65 x 5 x 35 which has plenty of back end but I want the Marvel Pearl to have more emphais on control.

My inital thought is to increase my VAL angle and reduce my Drilling angle on my 65 x 5 by 35 layout and try to stay around a total combined angle of about 110 degrees.   I know it is best to watch me throw to give best advice but can anybody help with general thoughts?

Thanks
MK

Here are my basic specs.
  o PAP 5 1/2 > 1/2^
  o Rev Dominant tweener
  o Ball Speed 15-16
  o Axits tilt +/- 15 degrees
  o roatation +/- 50 degrees
  o high track
I am comforatable putting alot of hand into the ball or almost none at all.  As a rule,  I favor trhowing inside the other league bowlers has I can keep a cleaner line longer but I have no problem throwing down 10 with no hand if need be.

If you are after control, the emphasis would be on your second layout of 50x4x70. There is a question though.

-Does the Hy-road Pearl have an X-Hole? You could essentially do the same layout and adjust the weight hole accordingly to give you more control then fine tune with surface.

Understand, the Marvel Pearl with a bigger block and lower RG not to mention stronger cover, will be earlier and smoother overall than Hy-Road Pearl. If you just drill it the same, it will be a ball up.

Thanks.  My Hy Road has a small P3 hole.   If I recall I was about 1 oz positive initially and the X hole and brought it back to essentailly neutral by taking about +/- 1 oz.   I wanted more a little more pop on the back end but not too much which is why I went with a P3 and not P4.

There is no P4 in symmetrical balls. The thumb hole is essentially P4 and is considered as such.

In that case, I would repeat the layout if I wanted something that was a step up or do the pin down if I wanted to control the breakpoint.
