Help me choose and understand layouts

I throw strictly 13# equipment.  I have tried several manufacturers with success.  I have never tried Storm and am considering a #13 Agent.  According to Storm, the Master Line maintains the same weight block shape at #13.  The rg is 2.51 with a differential of .052 at the lighter weight.

I'm looking for advice on a drilling to help control the mid-lane and still have a strong kick in the back-end.

I'm bowling on Proanvilane on a medium to sometimes medium/heavy shot.  I have slow speed (approx.12) with revs to match.  I have a tendency to belly the ball out so I am trying to cut down some of the flare but still maintain a good back-end reaction.  My biggest problem is trying to hold the line.  I always seem to have too much mid-lane as the night goes on which gets more and more difficult for me to control.  As a result I'm forced to hook the ball too much and it loses too much energy by the time it gets back to the pocket and I start leaving ten pins.

I've been wanting to try a pin over or under bridge layout with the cg approximately 1" right of grip center.  What are your thoughts on this layout for my style?  

Any input and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

i have my agent drilled pin above ring finger and cg around 2 inch right from the grip center, it goes pretty long and hits pretty good.

What are you using now that reads the lanes too early? Without knowing that we can not accurately assess what the Agent will do.

Right now I'm using a #13 Vendetta Black drilled pin above and slightly right of ring finger and cg in center of palm.  I'm not sure which weight block is used in that particular ball in the lighter weight.  I also have a Dominator which has a Nitro R-2 core drilled pin above and 3/4" right of ring  with cg 1 1/4" right of grip center.

I've had this same problem with almost every ball I've had in the past including Blade Solid (diesel shaped core - rg. 2.53 diff. 056).  Ball was kept in a polished state.

That is why I wanted to try a different drilling.

Given what you are describing the Agent with the pin over bridge sound like it may be just what you are looking for. From what I have seen of the Agent and the Vendetta Black the Agent pushes quite a bit easier with more backend recovery.

Thank you for your responses.

I just found out that my Vendetta Black has an rg of approx 2.60 and a diff. of .022 which may be the reason why I've always had carry issues with that ball.

I have a basic understanding of rg and differential.  What would the difference in ball reaction be between the Vendetta Black drilled pin slightly right of ring and cg in palm compared to Agent drilled pin over bridge and cg 1" right of grip center.  Keep in mind that at 13# the Agent has an rg of 2.51 and diff. of .052 versus 2.60 and .022 for the Vendetta Black.  How does the rg and differential change after drilling?

I would appreciate some input on this question and my initial question.  Can any of the pro shop operators provide any feedback?

LadyW -- The reason you're not getting any feedback is that we don't have anything to work with.  Pin, cg, and mb location in relation to the fingers or grip center doesn't tell us anything.  We have to know your PAP location and the distances from your PAP to the pin and cg (or mb) to be able to make an intelligent response.  And if you really want the best information, give us axis rotation and axis tilt also.  --  JohnP

My pap is in my profile - 5 1/4 over and 1/2 up.  I'm not sure of my axis rotation but my tilt is low approx. 10 degrees.

agent is a great ball! mine has a 4.5" pin on it which helps delay the hook some. its drilled stacked leverage and has a weight hole for some extra flare and to make it produce more of a arcing in the midlane. gets down the lane with easy and reads the backend very sharp strong and hard. can hook the whole lane. take it out to the 1 board and it comes screaming back everytime. excellent excellent carry!

Oops, I should have checked your profile.  For the reaction you're looking for, I'd suggest a 5 x 4 1/2 layout with the pin over the fingers on whatever ball you choose.  That should get you well down the lane before the ball begins to break.  If you can get get a ball with a 3 1/2 - 4" pin out you'll be able to avoid a weight hole unless you want one to modify the reaction.  The cg will be kicked out enough that you'll have side weight to work with if you decide to add a weight hole.  A polished pearl will enhance the length even more.    --  JohnP
