Help... Pitches...
« on: February 04, 2012, 01:12:08 PM »
I picked up a used drill press/jig and finally wrestled it home.  In taking a closer look at the jig, its not completely obvious (at least to me) where to measure the pitches.  Here are a couple photos:

I assume the top is at 0" and the bottom is at 1"....  Does this look right?  Everything I have seen in the past had some sort of marker or indicator.

Thanks!

Scott

If I am correct, the block that moves should be the indicator.  You would like up the edge of the block with the amount of pitch on the ruler.

In that first picture you would be reading close to 0 pitch

And in the 2nd picture you have around 1 1/16th of an inch

Now drill holes at 0,0 and check with pitch gage at 0,0 and then you can adjust the rulers to fine tune it.

Many of these jigs have a test cylinder that you line up under the drill bit as you are locking down your jig.

Until the drill bit is dead center in this test cylinder with the jig set at 0,0 you have not locked down correctly to your drill platform/table.  From there it is pretty easy.
