Help w/ No Mercy Layout--UPDATE
« on: October 20, 2006, 08:21:23 AM »
Is this the strongest drilling recommended?  The cg is kicked 7/16" left of pin-mass bias line which in turn moves the pin closer to my axis if I keep the cg in the grip center and the hart in my track.  Need help before I put holes in it, any ideas?

New--  http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/8952/img6559lz2.jpg

I will have to drill the Middle finger a little deeper to make legal.

They say that the pin should be at least 4" form your axis, so I see your problem.  Even though you'll end up with negative side weight, I would adhere to their instructions.  If the ball company says drilling other ways than they recommend may produce undesired effects, I would do as they say, at least until more people understand how this ball works.  They have several layouts with negative side weight cg placements, so I don't think that will hurt.

With the way this new core works along with HART and cg marking, there is almost no way to effectively use a weight hole.  Even if you drilled the middle finger deeper, you still won't be able to use too big of a weight hole.  If I didn't know any better, I would say this ball was designed to meet the USBC proposed rules that didn't get passed.  This ball is strongest when the cg is within 1" of the center of the grip and that all but eliminates the possibility of a weight hole.  Sound familiar?

Brian Graham wrote me in reference to my layout,

Shane, I recommend placing the pin at 4 1/2" from your PAP above your ring finger with the HART in your ball track.  This will provide more length and a more aggressive backend reaction.  Don't worry about the negative side weight as long as you do not have more than 1 ounce after drilling.  The negative side weight will not affect ball motion.  Brian

I have also heard from another member on here that negative sideweight doesn't necessarily hurt the backend motion.

I have now drilled two of the No Mercy's.  #one had the pin/cg/hart not all in a straight line and #two did all line up.  Both balls rolled very similar (GREAT!).  The guy that has #one says he can't feel any neg. side weight and has no problem turning the ball.  Hammer has a winner here for the way it works/reacts and the ease of drilling.

Is Hamer not on top of the ball market or what?
