Grip Sizes
« on: August 08, 2006, 02:12:24 AM »
I ordered 21/32 and 23/32 grips from Vise that were a hair too big.

Is there a 64th that's a step down from that, or would I go 19/32 and 21/32 and open them up a hair with some acetone rubbing or something similar?

I used a ruler with 32nd's to get the 21 and 23 numbers and it looked perfect. It seemed difficult to measure a round object on a flat surface.

I would check the Vise web site for sizes. You could slide small piece of cardboard between the grip and ball to snug it a bit. Business cards works good.

Try using a 61/64 bit rather than 31/32. That should tighten them up. Also, you can put a cardboard shim between the back of the insert and the ball to tighten them up. Some people rap a layer or two of electrical tape around the insert before glueing them in, but unless you go through inserts fairly quickly, this can leave a sticky mess in the holes when you do change them.

They do sell half sizes if you want to just buy new ones.

Yes Vise make grips in 64th increments.

Excellent. Thanks guys. For now I'll use the shim on my existing, then get some 41 and 45 - 64ths next time.

I have never used cardboard for shims, but what works for me is simply taking a piece of scotch tape and making one trip around the top of the insert then puting it in the ball.  This will definately give you that little extra.

Another thing to consider is your ball driller could have gotten a new bit for the fingers.  Since that bit is used the most often of all the bits, it wears down a little faster and needs replacing.  Your past few balls that use the same inserts may have had a smaller, worn down, bit and now with the newer, bigger bit, the inserts seem big.
