Help with drilling....
« on: March 25, 2009, 07:03:51 AM »
I need help figuring out how to get my Mega Friction ball drilled. I don't know where to even start. With my other balls I just gave them to the guy and he drilled them. Now one had to be re-drilled because I did not like the reaction. I want to know what I want before I bring the ball in. I want it to go threw the oil and snap hard at the end. The orange Ogre I have now has a slight curve to it but goes to long on oil conditions. Can anyone help me figure this out?

The mege friction isnt designed for that it a a hook monster when a ball comes with a warning lable in the cover sating warning this ball hooks all it does is hook id drill it pin up and then smooth it out and polish it but totally kills the idea of buying a hook monster like this one.

No offense, but what you are looking for is mostly technique, not the ball or drilling.A ball like the Mega is designed to give you SOME arc or movement on heavy or long oil,but it will NOT usually "snap hard at the end".You must re- analyze what you want your ball to do and what is physically possible. For most bowlers these two are not the same!

I drilled one last week and the reaction I got was pure hook, exactly what it was designed to do.  This is not a skid flip ball and was not meant to be.

I'd suggest stepping back even a step further - It is best to decide what ball recation you want/need. Based on this, you can select a matching ball and a drilling that exploits the ball's design to your needs. You can even select a ball specimen with a suitable pin distance and top weight that will help you achieve your desired reaction, and you can also tune the ball's surface.

It is IMO not effective to get a ball and want something from it it was not designed for. You might drill a MF "to go long and snap hard", but I guess you will be disappointed with the result, because it is not designed for this purpose. It is a high friction oil ball that will grab the lane early, move in an arc and get the ball into a roll on oily shots where others will simply slip beyond the break point and not be effective. Any oil ball will do this, however.

I guess I said the wrong thing. The ball I have now on an oily condition I have to stand on the second dot and throw between first and second arrow. Basically it is a strait shot. I want a ball that will cut the oil. Something I can throw center dot out to first arrow like I throw my other ball on a light surface. Maybe I don't know what to get????

I will say it differently: most of the time NO ball will do what you are asking! You are at the mercy of the laneman and must play where they put you. You also must learn to adjust speed, loft, revolutions, and angle of rotation. Not to be too harsh, but there is a lot more to this game than you think.
