Help with layout.
« on: October 11, 2009, 07:43:04 PM »
Im needing some help with layouts. i am a bit confused at the moment. im a high rev high speed cranker, about 500rpm and 18-20mph with a low track 3½ over 0 up or down. our house shot is the kegel winding road so this is not just a bumper shot. im mostly throwing columbia300. but here is the problem, my fav layout is pin 5½" above middle finger cg kicked out. something like this  40x5½x25 this layout gives me length with good midlane and a strong backend. i currently have a resurgence drilled 5" pin above and between fingers 35x5x35, i like smaller drill angles because i spin it a bit, helps me get it to rev up faster. this resurgence is pretty strong with this layout but most is in the backend, still fairly good midlane but good backend, flares about 5". i then drilled a second resurgence 75x4½x25 this is pin under middle finger cg out. this ball has 0 downlane reaction at all and flares about ½" no flaring at all. i wanted to use this for heavy oil and longer patterns to get it to start sooner. i dont know if i got or dud or anything. but this seems like a good ball for shorter patterns, but that is not what i drilled it up for. to see if this ball is a dud i drilled a momentum swing the same way. with same result, a very week and melow reaction. i dont really get it because i have a momentum swing drilled 45x6x35 and this ball has some downlane reaction, i use this for when i encounter medium oil. i dont get it because 4½" from axis should be a bit stronger than 6" from axis so im a little confused. any help will be appreciated

Putting the pin beneath your fingers is gonna give you a earlier, much more even roll.  That sounds like what you got.  Have you used a weight hole yet?  If not, put one past your VAL for more flare.

i can try with a weighthole. but i drilled it be sooner. but didnt think it would remove all flare and all the downlane reaction. it seems like a very very weak ball motion

Have you confirmed your PAP location with white tape on a non-flaring (plastic, if possible) ball?  --  JohnP

I agree with John.  Be sure to confirm your PAP.  The amount of flare you are getting indicates a large pin to PAP distance.  If you want to try a weight hole, I recommend placing it an inch or two past your VAL on a line drawn from center of grip through the cg.  Again, the drilling you chose is suppose to be pretty mellow, don't expect the world out of it.

Yes i did check my pap. but compared to a 6 inch with pin over fingers i get 2-3" of flare. but putting the pin below my middle finger at 4½ from pap i only get about ½" of flare. if pin to pap dictates the amount of flare then this is weird i think.

I usually get less flare with pin below as well.  Try the weight hole.
