I was reading Walter Ray's Q & A's on his website, and saw that he told one fan that he has all of his balls drilled label, and just changes the reaction based on hand position and ball speed. Would an arsenal of different coverstocks and cores etc all with the same drilling really provide the same range of potions as the same balls with different layouts?

layout count 10% or something like that so you figure

No need to have x number of balls if you just bowl a league shot.  I love watching these guys come in with 8 ball rollers for the same shot for 32 weeks, its laughable.

A little harder, a little softer, a little more hand, a little less.  If you are actually decent enough of a bowler with decent physical skills, you only need a couple of balls to do the trick.

Again, this is for the typical league shot.


it all depends...you have to put into consideration on who you are bowling against...what kind of equipment(solid, pearl) where they are playing if there are 7 out of 10 players ripping the same line and you have 2 virtual gravities and you rip the ball...by mid 2nd game your ball is going to do nothing but roll out bcus everyone is going to make the same adjustments as you...and if you have a polished VG the ball is going to hit that dry breakpoint the other 6 bowlers burned into the lane. then what do you do?

Mr Straight Ball -- Your "average league bowlers" must have a lot more hand than ours (~165 average).  And sorry if I pulled the thread off topic.  --  JohnP

Steve Jaros and Tim Criss are two big proponents of same drilling layout on multiple balls and adjusting balls with surface and polish to get the reaction they are looking for, just as Walter Ray is too.
