Title: Help? Looking for strongest ball on market, for wife
Post by: cjbig34 on December 09, 2010, 01:44:07 AM
My wife is a solid bowler averaging around 200 every yr.  She doesnt have much hand in the ball.

She currently has a mutant cell, virtual gravity, pluto.

I am looking for the strongest ball out there.

Anarchy,  Mission 2.0,....  is there anything stronger?  If so how should I drill it?  Again medium speed low revs.

Thanks for help

Obviously this depends on the specifics of her game, but don't rule out a good, strong polished pearl such as the anarchy.  I have a Virtual Gravity that I like (I am @ 16.5 mph off the hand with 275 or so revs), but often can't use for more than a game or so because it starts to burn up.  I find my Second Dimension usable for a longer period of time on a THS if only I start about 2&2 further right on the approach (both balls are drilled the same).  I guess it depends on how soon and strong she needs the ball to start picking up its roll and reading the midlane.

Get her an AMF Mega Friction, that is about as strong as they get. The Mega Recovery hooks a ton also. Both are very reasonably priced as well.

Either mission would work well...depending on surface.

Track 715T is similar to Mutant Cell/Virtual Gravity but I believe it to be a little stronger off the spot than the MC/VG and more overall hook.

C system 3.5. Most hooking ball I've ever thrown, and should give her a nice dramatic move off the friction into the pocket.

The Motiv Cruel is a very strong and aggressive ball. The surface can be adjusted to meet the bowlers needs.

I have to agree with the post above this one

The Motiv C51 is the most aggressive ball I've seen so far. Other then that, you got the Storm Invasion and Anarchy, Ebonite Mission or 2.0, and AMF Shredder.

In the mid price range: Storm 2Fast and 2Furious, and 900 Global Favorite.

Hope that helps a little man

Theory or Invasion could handle the most oil. Anarchy has the biggest motion down lane.

For what? What is the ball supposed to do, or which "problem" is it supposed to solve?
When she averages 200, I hardly see why a "stronger" ball shoudl help - unless it is somehow necessary because of oily conditions. Or is it a "mental" thing, because of the "no hand = little hook = no good bowler" equation? With little hand and probably speed, a strong ball might be detrimental, please be more specific.

Have you tried changing the surface on something she has now??
With people that have little hand surface is the key.
4000 abralon hooks a ton off dry for people with people that have revs but for people that don't it may never hook up and move.
I would try 1000 abralon or 500 abralon and see how that works..
even with little hand it may roll out though depending on the layout and the lane condition.

I give my old equipment to my Dad..mostly 4000 abralon and polished.. he had trouble getting it to move.. We took some of his pieces down to maroon and green scotch bright and he can cover boards with the best of them now..

but I would agree about the AMF mega friction..
That ball has a pretty high load of particle even though it is not marketed as such..

According to the ball chart I have, the "Awesome Hook" is the most aggressive ball. Having a comparative rating of 8 Length, 16.5 Back-end and 58 Overall. The next ball is the "Total Shock & Awe" with ratings of 7 L, 15 BE and 57 OA. This compares to the "Mega Friction" with 8.5 L, 15 BE and 55 OA.

Who wrote that chart? How old is it?

I have an Awesome Hook, had one, gave it away. Great ball. Not the most hooking ball I have seen, especially compared to some of the more recent releases. For covering the most boards in heavy to medium conditions, you should get something like an Invasion, Virtual Gravity, or 930t. If you are looking for backend hook, try a 715a or a 607se.  Of course, how the ball is drilled, according to your PAP will have substantial effect on the reaction. So will the surface prep of the cover.

Find someone that knows about drilling, surface and the difference in the balls on the market, and let them help you after watching you throw a game or so.

The chart I have has 773 balls compared and the latest I found was 09/2010.

I have lost the web location, but it is BTM_Ball_Reviews in the heading. Someone on this site gave me the web address.

If it is for oil, and she needs a ball that will bite in the pattern sooner than I would suggest you drill her an Invasion from storm, or a Motiv Cruel

I'm more in favor of Storm products, but if I had to recommend a non Utah product that will give you the best motion on a higher volume pattern, it's the Cruel.

Watched a guy throw the Cruel didn''t hook a lot at all.

Asking the people on this site what the most hooking ball is, like asking what is the true unemployment rate.

The Visionary Centaur Particle, Mega Recovery, Mega Friction, the first I listed would cover true heavy oil and nothing less.

Also have watched bowlers use VGs, Invasions, Mutants some looked great, some looked horrible.  Pure Physics on a true medium...a Time Bomb ran circles around it...a full step over it...And how can one rate a pearl ball the most hooking ball is beyond me, put some oil down it''s not hooking much......

Point of my post...it''s all subjective...do the research and choose for yourself.

Hammer Taboo hooks a TON.  Keep in mind you also want the ball to roll and hit good too.  Some of those balls that were recommended do not roll as well as the Taboo.

I have seen a few people throw the pure physics that don't have hand and the ball looks really good.. Way better than the plague..

the 916 AT looks pretty good too if you have forward roll.

Neat chart. Why is the V2 sanded not listed? Just curious. Seems like it should have been listed before any of the other v2s.

1. So, exactly why do you not allow your/her driller to do "the right thing"?

2. With the Mutant Cell and VG at 2000 grit and 4000 grit respectively, why not take these VERY AGGRESIVE shelled balls down to 400 or 600 grit US or 1000 grit Abralon and see what she does with them?
Why pour more good money after bad (balls that don''t seem strong enough)?

Everything, especially a topic such as this, is EXTREMELY subjective, and hard linked not only to rev rate, but ball speed, tilt and rotation. All factors must be taken into account!!!!! This is not a simple subject.
