Duplicating ball fits
« on: November 27, 2005, 01:07:47 AM »
Is it possible/difficult to duplicate ball drilling fits?  Reason I ask is, a few years ago I got a ball which was drilled perfectly.  It's my best releasing ball and it fits my thumb great.  The guy who drilled it wrote down all my specs, but I've gotten 2 other balls from him and neither fits quite like that one did.  The most common issue turned out to be a bevel problem, ball would hang up on my thumb until some of the bevel was taken out.

I even tried going to another pro shop and getting completely remeasured, but that wasn't good.  Ball felt like it fit ok, until it shredded the right side of my thumb...

So is it possible to replicate drillings, or should I kinda expect every ball to feel a bit different for all intents and purposes?

Guz .. sounds like you still have the ball that fit to your satisfaction. Theres a BR member from PA that I've used for years. Started with him by sending a ball that I was happy with where he copied the drilling to a new ball. I was VERY HAPPY with the results .. I've used NO ONE else for ball drillings since and I've bought over 30 balls since then. His name is Mike Cimba and he's known on BR as PBA1G11 .. get in touch with him .. he's reasonable and a PRO! His shop number is:1-888-884-8734.

Take it to a pro shop that has vise exacticate or any other type of thumbhole replication. If you use grips, the finger holes are very easy to replicate but the thumbhole can be a bit more of a challenge unless you use some sort of thumb mold. Here is a small description of the exacticate.

I totally understand this problem.  For me it has always been the thumb that feels different.  I throw the ball straight for my spares.  I can make any ball go straight.  I use a phenom unleashed for my spares and it is drilled strong.  The reason why I use it is because the thumb just feels perfect when I release the ball.  I wish every ball of mine had that feel to it.

Thumbs can be duplicated easily by molding the thumb hole.
We do this almost daily at our shop.

PM me if you want more info.
