Pitches for Players with High Backswings
« on: August 28, 2006, 06:27:24 AM »
Hi All,
I wanted to get some ideas from people with backswings above their shoulder on what pitches they use for comfort and the least amount of grip pressure.
Thanks,
DW

I have a high backswing that is pretty free, I never feel forced to squeeze or pinch the ball and at the release I feel nothing.  I've played with pitches for years but here are the ones I've been using the past 4 months

Middle finger:  0, and 5/16 left
Ring finger: 0, and 1/4 right
Thumb: 1/8 reverse, 1/8 left

Shouldn't pitch be completely independent, based on the bowler?  DP said that he uses 1/8 reverse, while Nollster, who has a very high backswing (but lays it down very smooth) has a great deal of forward pitch in the thumb.  Pitch isn't based on the swing, it's based on the bowler.  Not to mention you have to discuss span as well, as 1/4" forward in the thumb for someone with a span of 4" would be comfortable, while someone with a span of 5 1/4" and that same pitch would think that it feels completely different.

Let me make one thing clear. I'm not trying to copy anyone else’s pitches. I understand that everyone rolls the ball differently. I'm the kind of person that likes to read polls and get different opinions before making my own decision based on my own personal experiences.

I still think the height of the backswing along with the bowlers hand flexibility and other factors can help with creating a comfortable grip.

Thanks for your comments.
