Hook/Set Layout

Is there a certain lay-out for this type of reaction and if so do you have to play a certain for it to work?

A pure hook set is achieved by matching your speed and revrate to a given condition.  The ball is usually set up to rev earlier than normal to control the break point and give you a more forward rolling backend reaction.

If you have access to the January 2004 issue of Bowling This Month, on page 43 Mo Pinel describes a layout that gives a kind of hook and set reaction that he says works great on synthetic lanes, lanes with carrydown, and lanes with a sport condition.  Basically, the CG is kicked out and below mid-line, and a balance hole is between the CG and the VAL, also below mid-line.  No experience with this layout yet, but I'm having an Unleashed re-drilled (thumb only) that has this exact layout, and which I hope will solve the synthetic carrydown problems that my local house has.
