Drilling an Arsenal Aggressive for BTM
« on: June 13, 2006, 12:06:49 PM »
I have an Arsenal Aggressive Particle X-out I want to drill for the BTM (48 foot flat oil, see http://www.bowlingthismonth.com/BTM/laneconditions.shtml).

The specs on the ball is 1.75" pin TW 2.25 oz.

The specs on me: lefty, 300 rpm, 18 mph (roughly 16 at the pins, depending on the ball), 5.25 over/.75 up.

Any suggestions on how to drill this?

(I had this posted on the Track board as well)

I bowled the BTM and had good success with my Big One, drilled with the pin under the ring finger at 5" from Pap with the cg at 4" and the mb in the strong area about 5" from pap.

I have simillar specs to you although I'm right handed. The shot is flat and I wouldn't try playing up the gutter, I found a good line standing 38 and crossing 23 at the arrows letting the ball go out to about 15 or 16 at the break point at about 50 ft.

I would drill your ball fairly aggressive and try to get as much flare out of it as possible, 3 3/8 with the cg below the midline at 3 3/8 from the pap and the weight hole on a line from the center of the grip through the cg on the virtical axis line about 2 to 3 inches below the pap.

This should give you maximum flare and get the ball into a good roll as it hits the pins. You only have about 12 feet from the end of the oil pattern to the head pin so you will need as much flare as possible to get the ball into a good roll.

Most lefties get a nose bleed when they cross the third arrow, so if you aren't comfortable playing deep I would practice on it with a plastic ball at home before you go.

Have fun, let us know how you did, I shot 704, 146, 201, 166, 191. The 166 was on 5 and 6 which hooked about 6 boards more than the other pairs, by the time I realized it was the lane and not me it was the 5th frame and I had one frame with a mark in it. The 146 start was because I was playing straight up 10 and made a mistake, I struck early and spent the rest of the game trying to make the line work instead of moving on and finding a better line.

I can play out to 5th arrow when the righties haven't stripped the head oil.

I was afraid the ball wouldn't kick into a roll with the pattern they're putting down, so was thinking of using a 2.5 pin to pap, either stacked or 25 degree.

I figured bowling 4 games splitting boards might be good practice for Team the next day.

If you go early enough there shouldn't be much of a problem with the righties stripping the head oil, I was the only one there when I bowled.

The problem with a 2.5 inch pin placement is the lack of backend. The ball tends to get into an end over end roll and quits on the back end, which works great on shorter patterns when the ball has pleanty of time to get to the pocket, but on the BTM the oil is very heavy and doesn't break down that fast and playing in as deep as you will need to, you will need enough back end to carry the corner pins.

If you want more snap put the pin at 4 to 4 1/2 stay below the finger holes, and keep the cg at 3 3/8.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.
